The Pantone Color Institute has announced it’s Colour of the Year for 2021!

We’ll be honest, a few of us in the Rencraft office have been trying to predict the 2021 Pantone Color of the Year for a few weeks now, and while we are pleased to say that we were pretty close with one of the shades chosen (a bright, positive hue), what we hadn’t anticipated was that Pantone’s team of experts would select two colours to set the tone for the year ahead.

That said, the pairing of a neutral grey (Ultimate Gray) with the sunny optimism of a primrose yellow (Illuminating) is one we absolutely agree with. In fact, it’s not too dissimilar from the colour pallette we chose for the Modular Kitchen display in our Tunbridge Wells Design Studio (pictured).

Speaking about the 2021 colour choices, Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, had this to say;

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

Here at Rencraft, we echo this sentiment; reflecting upon the challenges of 2020, drawing on our strengths and looking forward with optimism to the year ahead.

What’s more, we feel that these concepts of practicality balanced by positivity also relate to the values that we place at the heart of our design process too. From the excitement and optimism of helping our clients to achieve their dream home, to the reassurance and solidity of knowing that each piece of furniture we produce is handmade by our experienced craftsmen using only the highest quality materials. Beautiful, yet practical. Steadfast, yet inspired. This is what we set out to achieve, and that is why the thoughts and feelings behind this year’s Pantone Color of the Year mean so much to us.

What is the Pantone Color of The Year?

For over 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.

The Pantone Color of the Year selection process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s colour experts at Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for new colour influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, playstyles, and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from new technologies, materials, textures, and effects that impact color, relevant social media platforms and even upcoming sporting events that capture worldwide attention.
