The Grand Tour

5 Reasons To Visit Our Tunbridge Wells Showroom

Having been crowned Kitchen Showroom of the Year for the second time earlier in 2026, we thought it was the perfect moment to take you on a proper tour of our Georgian townhouse, sitting proudly at the top of one of the finest streets in historic Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Whether you’re at the very start of your kitchen or home renovation journey or simply love beautiful spaces, here are five reasons why a visit is well worth the trip.

1. Four Floors Of Luxury Kitchen Displays

Unlike a typical kitchen showroom, stepping through the door at 81 Calverley Road feels less like walking into a shop and much more like being welcomed into a sophisticated family home. You’ll be greeted first by our newest display, The Cabinetmaker’s Kitchen, before the Georgian-inspired House of Rencraft draws your eye to the back of the ground floor, with its striking wallpaper and floor-to-ceiling cabinetry setting the elegantly eclectic tone for everything that follows.

From there the choice is entirely yours. Climb the sweeping staircase to explore the first and second floors, or slip through the secret door nestling quietly in the corner of the ground floor and follow it down into our basement displays, where the mood shifts again to incorporate everything from a classic, farmhouse-style space to a contemporary kitchen with an edgy, urban look.

2. Bespoke Kitchens: The Freedom To Design Your Own

What truly sets us apart from other kitchen companies is that we don’t offer fixed ranges to choose between, because everything we make is entirely bespoke. As our Managing Director, John, explains it best himself:

“For us it’s not about walking into a showroom and being shown ranges or specific displays. It’s about taking the pieces you like, the bits that are right for you, your home and its architecture, and putting them together to create something unique to you and your property.”

So, if you’re hoping to bring together elements from several of our displays into one kitchen that feels unmistakably like your own, a visit to our Tunbridge Wells showroom will show you exactly how that comes together in practice.

3. Beyond The Kitchen: Bespoke Cabinetry For Every Room

In keeping with the homely feel of our townhouse, we’re just as proud to showcase cabinetry and design for the rest of your home as we are our kitchens. Our basement boot room sits comfortably alongside the farmhouse kitchen display and offers myriad options for storing shoes, wellies, coats, jackets and even walking sticks, while our prep kitchen is home to a walk in pantry with glazed, reeded doors that offer a tantalising glimpse of the neatly stocked shelves beyond.

Elsewhere throughout the showroom you’ll find clever storage solutions at every turn, from understairs cupboards to bifold larders and dedicated wine storage, along with a home office in 81, The Penthouse, our top-floor show apartment, fitted with the kind of audiovisual and lighting setup that makes it a luxurious and comfortable setting for client meetings. The same penthouse floor is also home to our cocktail bar, complete with its five metre high lantern light and liquid metal bar top, where we’ve hosted many happy evenings with clients and partners over the years.

4. The Calverley Collection: Handmade Freestanding Furniture

While most of our clients do still choose a fitted kitchen, we’re seeing a gradual shift away from that, which fits with what we’ve always believed: that the very best kitchens read as a considered collection of furniture rather than a run of matching cabinetry, with each piece chosen individually and brought together to form a room that feels lived in rather than installed.

It was this belief that led us to create The Calverley Collection, a range of freestanding, entirely handmade pieces that can be commissioned and bought as standalone items in their own right. All four pieces are currently on display in our Tunbridge Wells showroom, and each one is worth seeking out as you peruse the four storeys.

The Chef's Table

Standing proudly in one of our ground floor displays, this solid oak table is hand finished with turned, fluted legs and topped with a bullnose-edged Calacatta marble surface that quietly echoes the arched windows of the building around it. Beneath its Armac Martin cup handles lies a small secret, because pulling open the central drawer reveals a hidden knife rack and spice insert. On the other side of the table, we opted for a ‘cut-away knee hole’ perfect for seating three barstools to create a convivial and practical family space.

The Architect's Chest

Named after Decimus Burton, the architect behind the Calverley Estate that our showroom itself calls home. This seven drawer statement piece takes its inspiration from the plan chests once used by draughtsmen to store their drawings flat and uncreased. On display within The Cabinetmaker’s Kitchen, its drawers currently hold an extensive collection of handle samples for clients to try against their own cabinetry and paint swatches. Although in a real kitchen or hallway it would make just as elegant a home for table linens, cutlery or coasters.

The Freestanding Island

At the heart of our basement farmhouse kitchen sits this island. Hand painted in Farrow & Ball’s Bancha and topped with Caesarstone’s Empira White quartz, with a thick walnut chopping board set into one end for contrast. Because it stands on four slender legs rather than being fixed in place like fitted cabinetry, it can travel with you when you move house and be repainted to suit whatever kitchen it finds itself in next.

The Butcher's Block

Built to be used every bit as much as it is admired, this workhorse piece pairs a hardwearing end grain oak top with a hand painted base. Currently finished in a deep damson, and a slatted oak shelf beneath for trays, baskets and cast iron casserole dishes. Every Butcher’s Block we make is built to your own dimensions and finish, whether you need a compact prep surface tucked into a corner or a statement second island that anchors the whole room.

5. Handmade in Kent: Crafted at Our Sevenoaks Workshop

Everything on display in our Tunbridge Wells showroom has been crafted by our team of skilled cabinetmakers in our workshop in Sevenoaks, and it’s this close relationship between our two sites, built up over more than 45 years, that keeps our design and workshop teams so tightly connected in practice. It also means our displays are far from static, being regularly refreshed to reflect the latest trends, materials and ideas as they emerge.

Since converting the top floor from a residential flat into 81, The Penthouse in 2023, a fully functioning show apartment complete with cocktail bar, home office and ultra-modern kitchen, we’ve gone on to design and install seven further displays.
