Classic Blue has been announced as the Pantone Colour of The Year for 2020.

Described as “elegant in it’s simplicity” this deep, blue tone takes it’s inspiration from the sky at dusk and has been selected by the Colour Experts at Pantone due to it’s reassuring qualities. A calm and dependable shade, particularly relevant as we enter the dawn of a new decade.

According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute “We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on. Imbued with deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation. A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious and expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”

When it comes to kitchens and interiors, blue has been growing in popularity for some time. Deep blue islands, paired with paler grey-blue cabinets (like the one pictured) are a well-loved colour combination. These calm and reassuring tones are ideally suited to the kitchen, one of the busiest and hardest working rooms in the home. Of course, the added advantage with a hand-painted kitchen design is that you can always choose to repaint in a few years time, ensuring you always have a kitchen that remains current in style even though the cabinets themselves have been designed to last for twenty years or more.
