WHOLE HOUSE PROJECT
A 5 bedroom new build property situated on an exclusive private road.
A whole house project including an open plan kitchen, family living room, bootility, pool room with bar, hallway, TV snug, children's playroom, bedrooms and home office.
The Brief
The client came to us with plans for an impressive new build family home for which they wanted handcrafted cabinetry and a cohesive design which would blend seamlessly from room to room, as well as throughout the three floors of the home.
One of the key objectives was to create an open plan kitchen, including a large L-shaped island with ample seating for informal dining & socialising, which also flows into a number of other carefully zoned areas to allow the growing young family to spend time together. This clever layout also gives the family opportunity to enjoy individual activities such as playing with friends in the custom built playroom, enjoying a game of pool and a drink with friends after a busy week at work, or settling down to a favourite programme in front of the TV at the end of the day.
This open plan design truly bridges the gap between outside and in, as well as making the most of the natural light which floods into the kitchen thanks to the lantern light above the living room area. This airy space allowed us to plump for a bold, dark blue hue which we used to hand paint the cabinetry – a colour choice which we continued throughout the home.
The central focus of this space is the large L shaped kitchen island which boasts a generous seating area for informal dining, as well as extensive storage for crockery, pots & pans and cutlery, ensuring that everything is on hand whilst preparing meals. To take full advantage of the views out to the rest of the ground floor and the landscaped gardens beyond, we incorporated a Bora hob with downdraft extractor to the island’s design, creating a more social aspect to cooking.
Behind the Bradshaw undermounted sink, complete with a Quooker hot water tap, we added an antique bronze mirrored splashback to add a subtle rosy reflection to the design which echoes some of the client’s other interior design choices in the open plan space.
The client opted for a bank of Gaggenau appliances including a fridge, freezer and wine chiller, as well as a Miele Pureline oven stack and a Bora Pro Set All Black hob and downdraft extractor.
For the worktops, we used 60mm Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold which complements the stainless steel appliances and blue hand painted cabinetry.
To enhance the flow between the kitchen island and the run of cabinetry on the back wall, we picked handles in waxed satin brass by Ged Kennett as a nod to the mirrored splashback behind the sink.

Our client was keen to have a distinct area for the storage of shoes, coats, school bags and sports kit and so we created a boot room area in the double height hallway with a bench seat for learning to tie shoe laces, pegs for hanging school blazers and caps, and plenty of cupboard space for bags, musical instruments and more.
At the rear of the property we also designed a bootility room which is located next to a downstairs shower room, so providing access from the garden and swimming pool & allowing for any wet towels, costumes and googles to be put straight into the laundry or sink for rinsing. This functional room also has the added bonus of preventing wet footprints, muddy paws and gardening boots from entering the kitchen & living areas.
To satisfy a family keen on sports & entertaining, we designed a bar for the client’s pool room including a central space for a large television to show all the latest sporting highlights, which we framed with glass open shelving, as well as wine & beer chillers and plenty of workspace for mixing cocktails.
For those quieter moments, we created a cosy TV snug with floor to ceiling cabinetry to house the client’s extensive collection of favourite books – the perfect place to escape and curl up with a good read on the comfy sofa.
Upstairs we designed cabinetry for each of the family member’s bedrooms with ample wardrobe space for shoes, clothes and toy storage for the children, as well as a walk-in closet space for the master suite to complement the hand painted open shelving, media unit and drawers in the bedroom.
In the second bedroom we also designed a run of bespoke cabinetry for our client’s suits, jackets, ties and shoes.
Finally, with the working-from-home way of life set to stay, we handmade a spacious office for our client on the second floor of the home, allowing them to work quietly during the day at a solid walnut desk with drawer storage and an expansive bookcase, and then shut the door and leave work behind in the evenings and weekends.
