The Brief

Designed for a large family, with four children, this kitchen needed to be modern and functional while also remaining sympathetic to the original architectural features of the property.

This beautiful Grade II listed farmhouse has been in our client’s family for several generations. While the current owners desired a space that was big enough to serve the needs of their growing family, they were also keen to create a warm and welcoming space that would celebrate and cherish the character of the property as a whole.

The quirky layout allowed for one large main kitchen with a central island, linking through to a separate pantry area and drinks station. This practical area contains a double door larder cupboard and integrated fridge freezer, which is further followed by a handy boot room and utility.

The same colour scheme and styling has been used throughout to help unify each of the different areas with open doorways and light, bright corridors allowing for a smooth sense of flow.

Shaker style cabinets with oak interiors have been hand-painted in two contrasting shades of grey and finished with burnished brass handles and marble effect quartz worktops.

Two open oak shelves by the sink are in keeping with the exposed beams on the walls and ceiling, while in a further nod to the history of the property our client upcycled some pendant lights that had been found in one of the outhouses and which now take pride of place above the kitchen island.

While history and heritage are key to the success of the design, modern conveniences have been included too in the form of a Quooker, Fisher & Paykel Fridge Freezer and a wine cooler.

On the island, Eternal Calacatta Gold has been used for the worktop, with its gently veined detailing adding an extra level of interest.

It’s the traditional touches that really help to bring this design to life, from the burnished brass handles and the brass hanging rail, to the farmhouse sink and the statement Dartmouth Blue Aga. This is truly a design that celebrates the heritage and history of the rest of the home.

The Rencraft team were absolutely brilliant when we renovated our farmhouse in Kent. From the initial design phase to the flawless installation, the entire design and build process was a testament to their professionalism and commitment to excellence.

My first meeting was with kitchen designer Sarah at their Chart Farm workshops, and she instantly understood our farmhouse aesthetic and worked alongside us to create a timeless kitchen design, which we know will play host to busy family life for many years to come!

Their attention to detail and creative approach was brilliant. Throughout the installation, the kitchen builders from Rencraft exhibited efficiency and skill. They completed the project within the agreed-upon timeframe, leaving us with a stunning and fully functional kitchen that exceeded our expectations.”
