Cocktails on the Island

Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Property

Detached family home

In a Nutshell

A bright open space for family living with storage solutions, a secret door and an added touch of glamour and sophistication.

The Brief

Our clients were extending their family home just outside Tunbridge Wells and wanted a large, multi-functional space that would work both on a day-to-day basis, as well as on special occasions when the couple like to entertain.

This project presented a potential challenge with its irregular ceiling heights and central pillar, so we worked with the space to create full height cabinetry along one wall with a double door larder cupboard and open shelving, as well as a secret door leading to the bespoke utility to avoid making the design look disjointed.

In the centre of the room the large, square-shaped island provides ample storage space and plenty of seating for family and friends. Here, a softer shade of blush pink has been chosen to delicately contrast with the deeper tones throughout the rest of the room.

We strategically positioned the sink by the window to allow lovely views over the garden and added to the airy feel with display cabinets either side with reeded glass fronts.

We also used this glass in the bespoke bar area which we hand-painted in a rich, luxurious shade of purple which cleverly contracts the dramatic charcoal grey cabinetry with its bevelled door detail and knurled, polished brass handles.

The whole kitchen has been finished with Corian worktops, beautifully moulded to provide a seamless wet area along with an unobtrusive splashback and extractor hood above the Miele Induction hob. Other appliances include a Miele oven stack with warming drawer, a Quooker and an American style fridge freezer.

The bar area boasts a built-in Miele wine cooler and an antique mirror splashback to enhance the luxurious feel of the design.

There is so much to love about this design, which is a mixture of statement and subtlety. From the Corian worktops, to the glass display cabinets, the antique mirror, the polished brass handles by Buster & Punch and the decadent colour scheme, everything has been carefully considered.

This mix of finishes and materials provides a fantastic example of the unlimited potential of a bespoke kitchen design and the end result is a truly personal space which will serve our clients well for decades to come.
